A handmade Montessori coin box from Latvia. Baby posts three wooden coins through the top, then slides open the drawer to find them again.

Drop a coin in, hear it fall, open the drawer, and there it is again. This Montessori coin box turns a baby's favourite question — where did it go? — into a game they can play by themselves, over and over.

The little drawer is the whole secret. Opening it is a small everyday task, just like grown-ups do, and behind it waits the satisfaction that the coin was never really lost.

Care
  • Wipe with a damp cloth and dry straight away; no soaking, no dishwasher.
  • Once a year (or when the wood looks thirsty), rub in a drop of food-safe oil or beeswax balm with a soft cloth.
  • Wood is a living material: small shifts in grain and tone are part of the toy, not a fault.
